Tuition Freeze for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 Academic Years
- Governor Abbott's Directive: On November 13, 2024, Governor Abbott issued a letter to public universities instructing them to take all steps to reduce the financial burden on students and their families.
- Tuition Freeze: In line with the 2023 Texas Legislature’s legislation (88th regular session), which prevented increases in undergraduate tuition and fees for Texas residents for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years, the Governor has extended this freeze to include the 2025-26 and 2026-27 academic years.
- Variable Rate Tuition: For students enrolled in or selecting a Variable Rate Tuition Plan, tuition rates will remain unchanged through the end of the 2026–2027 academic year. Rates may change thereafter if the freeze is not extended.
- Deadline to Select Tuition Rate Plan Unchanged: Students enrolling at Texas A&M for the first time in a Fall or Spring semester may change the tuition rate plan selection through the 5th class day. Students enrolling for the first time in Summer may select or change a rate plan selection through the 4th class day. Once these deadlines have passed, further changes to the plan selection are not allowed.

A: No, once you select a tuition rate plan, you are committed to it for a guaranteed period determined by your specific college and/or major. Students cannot switch between Locked and Variable Rate plans after their selection deadline has passed.
A: The Governor’s directive aims to prevent tuition increases for students on Variable Rate plans, as well as for incoming students selecting Variable through 2026-2027. It does not apply to students on Locked Tuition Plans.
A: No. Once you select a tuition rate plan, you are committed to it for a guaranteed period determined by your specific college and/or major. After the standard duration for your degree, your plan will switch to a Variable Tuition Rate, no matter which option you initially chose.
